Prateik Babbar is an Indian actor and martial artist. He is the only son of the Indian actors Raj Babbar and Smita Patil.

Prateik Babbar aka Prateik Patil Babbar ^[1]Twitter – Prateik Babbar was born on Friday, 28 November 1986 (age 38 years; as of 2024) in Mumbai. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. In 2025, he officially changed his name to Prateik Smita Patil.

Upto class 9, he did his schooling at Arya Vidya Mandir High School, Mumbai. There, the Indian TV actor Karan Tacker was his classmate. He did his class 11 and class 12 at St. Andrew’s College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Mumbai, where the Indian actor Aditya Roy Kapur was his classmate. Prateik then attended Jai Hind College in Mumbai, however, within a few months he was suspended for his poor attendance. He then enrolled in a few other colleges in Mumbai like Ramnarain Ruia Autonomous College, Wilson College, and Whistling Woods International, but he was terminated from all the colleges for his poor attendance. ^[2]YouTube – Mashable India In 2016, he did an acting course at Jeff Goldberg Studio in Mumbai.

His father, Raj Babbar, is an actor and politician. His mother, Smita Patil, was a renowned Indian actress. His mother died a few days after his birth due to pregnancy complications. At the time his father got married to his mother, he was already married to the Indian theatre artist and director Nadira Babbar. From his father’s first marriage, he has a half-sister, Juhi Babbar, who is an actor and theatre artist. His half-brother, Aarya Babbar, is also an actor.

Wife & Children

On 23 January 2019, he got married to the Indian model, producer, director, writer Sanya Sagar in Lucknow in a traditional Maharashtrian Hindu wedding style. The couple dated for a few years before tying the knot. However, within a year, the couple got separated, and in January 2023, they got divorced.

Prateik and Priya Banerjee got engaged to one another on 26 November 2023. The couple tied the knot on 14 February 2025 in Bandra, Mumbai.

The Indian TV actor Anup Soni is married to his half-sister Juhi Babbar. His maternal grandfather, Shivajirao Girdhar Patil, was a politician. His maternal grandmother, Vidyatai Patil, was a social worker.

Amy Jackson

In 2012, while was shooting for the Hindi film ‘Ekk Deewana Tha,’ he fell in love with his co-actor Amy Jackson. He soon proposed to her, and the couple started dating each other. Within a few months of their relationship, the couple parted ways.

After his divorce from his wife, he started dating the Indian actor Priya Banerjee. On 14 February 2023, the couple took to their Instagram accounts to share the news of their relationship.

During his college summer holidays, after returning from rehab, he joined the Indian film director Prahlad Kakar’s production house as a production assistant.

He started appearing in TV commercials at the age of 19. Some of his TV commercials are for popular brands like Nestlé KitKat, Durex, Coinswitch, Lava Mobile, and Vio.

 

He has also walked the ramp in various fashion shows.

In 2008, he made his acting debut with the Hindi film ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’ in which he played the role of Amit Mahant.

Some of his other Hindi films are ‘Dhobi Ghat’ (2011), ‘Ekk Deewana Tha’ (2012), ‘Chhichhore’ (2019), ‘Mumbai Saga’ (2021), and ‘India Lockdown’ (2022).

TV

In 2012, he appeared in an episode of the Hindi TV series ‘MTV Rush,’ aired on MTV. He participated in the celebrity cricket league ‘Box Cricket League Season 1’ in the Rowdy Bangalore team in 2014. He made his TV debut with then Disney+ Hotstar’s 2016 Hindi TV series ‘Shockers’ in the episode ‘A Lover’s Call.’

In 2023, Prateik, along with his family members, appeared in an episode of Sony TV’s show ‘The Kapil Sharma Show.’

Web Series

He has acted in various Hindi web series like ‘Skyfire’ (2019; Zee5), ‘Four More Shots Please!’ (2019; Amazon Prime Video), ‘Chakravyuh’ (2021; MX Original), ‘Modern Love: Mumbai’ (2022; Amazon Prime Video).

Martial Artist

In 2019, he started his training in boxing and a year later, he started his training in martial arts. He did his training in jujitsu, kickboxing, muay thai, and boxing. He is a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Other Work

At the beginning of his career, he appeared in the Hindi short film ‘The Guitar.’ He has also appeared in a few music videos like ‘#DilSeAzaad’ (2017; Voice over by: Akanksha Seda) and ‘Secret Sauce’ (English; 2020, by Monica Dogra).

He owns two restaurants named Morgan’s Place; one is in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh and the other is in Goa.

Controversy

FIR Filed in Rash Driving Case

In 2018, while he was crossing the Panaji-Mapusa highway in his car, he banged on a scooter after which an FIR under the Motor Vehicles Act of rash and negligent driving was registered against him in the local police station. He was then taken for a medical examination at Asilo Hospital in Mapusa, Goa for the blood sample. However, he refused to give any samples. ^[4]The Indian Express

• He once dropped his father’s surname from his name as he had some misunderstandings with his father. • In an interview, he shared that after his mother’s demise, his father returned to his first wife and he stayed back at his maternal grandparents’ house. Prateik said that his father used to remain busy with his first family and did not pay much attention to Prateik due to which problems started arising between Prateik and his father. • In a November 2024 interview, Prateik opened up about his struggles with drug addiction, revealing that he began using drugs at the age of 13 due to problems in the family. He stated that the claims of him beginning to use drugs only after becoming an actor were false. He further claimed that he managed to overcome his drug abuse once he entered the film industry. He said,
  

  Oh, he entered films, got fame and money, and then started taking drugs.’ No, that’s not true. My drug use began when I was thirteen or twelve-and-a-half years old. It wasn’t because of the film industry. Unfortunately, I had a different kind of upbringing, and my family situation was a bit complicated.”

• In March 2025, Prateik revealed that he decided to drop his father’s surname and use his mother’s as he did not wish to be linked with the Babbar family. Later, his wife, Priya, gave an interview, in which she revealed that Raj Babbar never looked after Prateik. She also hinted at the constrained relations between them both. She further added,
  

  You did this to somebody. But no, that family was never there, that person (referring to Raj Babbar) was never there in his life. So, I’m not sure why that question is coming up now, 30 years later.”
