Prateik Babbar is an Indian actor and martial artist. He is the only son of the Indian actors Raj Babbar and Smita Patil.

Upto class 9, he did his schooling at Arya Vidya Mandir High School, Mumbai. There, the Indian TV actor Karan Tacker was his classmate. He did his class 11 and class 12 at St. Andrew’s College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Mumbai, where the Indian actor Aditya Roy Kapur was his classmate. Prateik then attended Jai Hind College in Mumbai, however, within a few months he was suspended for his poor attendance. From his father’s first marriage, he has a half-sister, Juhi Babbar, who is an actor and theatre artist. His half-brother, Aarya Babbar, is also an actor.

In 2018, while he was crossing the Panaji-Mapusa highway in his car, he banged on a scooter after which an FIR under the Motor Vehicles Act of rash and negligent driving was registered against him in the local police station. - In a November 2024 interview, Prateik opened up about his struggles with drug addiction, revealing that he began using drugs at the age of 13 due to problems in the family. He stated that the claims of him beginning to use drugs only after becoming an actor were false. He further claimed that he managed to overcome his drug abuse once he entered the film industry. He said,
Oh, he entered films, got fame and money, and then started taking drugs.’ No, that’s not true. My drug use began when I was thirteen or twelve-and-a-half years old. It wasn’t because of the film industry. Unfortunately, I had a different kind of upbringing, and my family situation was a bit complicated.”
- In March 2025, Prateik revealed that he decided to drop his father’s surname and use his mother’s as he did not wish to be linked with the Babbar family. Later, his wife, Priya, gave an interview, in which she revealed that Raj Babbar never looked after Prateik. She also hinted at the constrained relations between them both. She further added,
You did this to somebody. But no, that family was never there, that person (referring to Raj Babbar) was never there in his life. So, I’m not sure why that question is coming up now, 30 years later.”
