In 2001, after completing his education, Arun Sao began his high court career. He worked as a panel attorney for the Chhattisgarh government from 2004 to 2013. From 2013 to 2018, he was the deputy advocate general of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
Politics
Arun Sao began his active political career as a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1990. In 1996, Arun Sao joined the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP; he was also the general secretary of Yuva Morcha along with district president and the then MLA Amar Aggarwal. In 2000, he became the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Sao also worked with the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for a considerable amount of time. In 2019, he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time.
In 2019, Arun Sao contested the 2019 Indian general elections from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh and defeated Congress candidate Atal Shrivastav by 1,41,763 votes. In August 2022, Arun Sao became the president of the Chattisgarh BJP by replacing Vishnudeo Sai. In the 2023 Chhattisgarh assembly elections, Sao defeated Congress leader Thaneshwar Sahu from the Lormi seat by 45,891 votes.
